Aggregates
What Are Aggregates?
Aggregates are granular materials used in construction and landscaping. They include materials such as sand, gravel, crushed stone, recycled concrete, and other natural or processed resources. These materials form the foundation of many building and surfacing projects and are essential in producing concrete, mortar, and asphalt.
Types of Aggregates We Supply
- Sharp Sand: Ideal for concrete mixes, block paving, and screeding.
- Building Sand: A finer sand used mainly for bricklaying and rendering.
- Ballast: A mix of sand and gravel used in strong concrete mixes for foundations and pathways.
- Crushed Concrete: Recycled material great for sub-bases, roadways, and environmentally friendly builds.
- MOT Type 1: High-quality crushed aggregate approved for road and path construction.
- Gravel (Various Sizes): Used for driveways, drainage, decorative borders, and landscaping.
- Topsoil: Screened and graded topsoil for turfing and planting.
Uses of Aggregates
Aggregates are used in a wide range of construction and landscaping applications, including:
- Creating solid foundations for buildings, roads, and patios
- Producing concrete and asphalt for construction works
- Improving drainage systems
- Filling and levelling groundwork
- Decorative features in gardens and driveways
- Landscaping and ground stabilisation
Aggregate Delivery
We offer flexible and reliable delivery options to suit your project size and site access. Aggregates can be delivered in:
- Bulk Bags: Perfect for smaller jobs or tight spaces where tipping isn’t possible.
- Loose Loads: Cost-effective option for larger quantities, delivered via our grab lorries or tipper trucks.
All deliveries are carried out using well-maintained vehicles operated by experienced drivers who ensure your materials arrive safely and on time.
How Aggregates Are Laid or Used
The way aggregates are used depends on the application:
- For Foundations: A compacted sub-base (e.g. MOT Type 1) is laid, followed by a layer of ballast or crushed stone for stability.
- For Concrete: Aggregates like sharp sand and gravel are mixed with cement and water to form concrete.
- For Drainage: Clean gravel or shingle is laid in trenches or around pipes to promote water flow.
- For Landscaping: Decorative stones or gravel are spread evenly and sometimes bordered for neatness.
- For Driveways: Layers of crushed stone are compacted and topped with finer aggregate or decorative gravel.
We can supply aggregates alone or as part of a full groundwork or surfacing service – just let us know your requirements.
